In 2007, the South African Parliament initiated Amazwi Abesifazane (Voices of Women), a national campaign designed to fortify the status of marginalised women, across the country.
This was done by creating platforms for open and honest dialogue, affording ordinary South African women an opportunity to share with Parliament, their opinions on issues related to policy and legislation that is intended to improve their lives. Workshops held throughout the country created opportunities for women to share their experiences, their dreams and aspirations and to give a clear impression, of the kind of challenges that continue to confront their communities.
